Pregnant Woman Dies After Drinking 3 Liters Of Coca-Cola And Energy Drinks Every Day

A pregnant mother of 3 children that drank 3 liters of Coca-Cola and energy drinks died of an epileptic seizure.

The news came after a coroner report was released to the public.

Amy Louise Thorpe, who lived in Invercargill, New Zealand, died of an epileptic seizure on December 4, 2018.

However, her death report found out that the woman drank around 2 liters of Coca-Cola every day and around 500 ml to 1 liter of energy drinks every single day.

The 34-year-old mother, who was reportedly 15 weeks pregnant when she passed away, had a history of epilepsy and other health conditions.

The mother, who had sleep apnoea, was addicted to soft drinks.

She was known to drink more energy drinks in 1 day than people would drink coffee.

Not only that, but the mother was also a heavy smoker.

1 month before her death, Thorpe was recommended to change epilepsy medication after her seizures became more frequent.

It was also recommended that she should go to the hospital so she could be monitored.

However, the mother was reluctant to change her medication or go to the hospital.

Hammond-Tooke, an associate professor, said:

In the case of Ms Thorpe, I think that excessive caffeine contributed to poor seizure control. While modest intake of caffeine contained in drinks is not likely to affect seizure control, large amounts probably do increase seizures and may have other adverse effects on health.

Authorities shared the story of Thorpe so they could raise awareness of the consequences of excessive caffeine intake.
