Hyderabad Metro Rail Creates A Record, 2.4 lakh Commuters Travel On Sunday

The most awaited Hyderabad Metro Rail created a record on the day one itself continued with an estimated seven lakh passengers having taken a ride in the four days till Saturday.

And on Sunday, the Metro Rail appeared set to more records amid infectious enthusiasm of people of all age groups flocking to stations in large numbers. The authorities said the crowd on Sunday were heavy and they expected to register record patronage.

The officials have made sure of an emphasis being laid on crowd management to avoid any untoward incident. “2.4 lakh passengers traveled by Hyderabad Metro on Sunday,” L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd, the concessionaire developing the 72-km elevated metro project, said.

Jampacked Hyderabad Metro Station

The Hyderabad Metro Rail had received an overwhelming response with over two lakh passengers traveling on the opening day of its commercial operations. With people continuing to throng metro rail, the services were running jampacked.

Being the first Sunday after the metro launch in the city, several people wanted to take their families on a joy ride. In the initial days, only individuals traveled. But on Sunday, families took the ride. In some stations, there was hardly any space and people were seen pushing others to get on the train.

Hyderabad Metro Rail Project, touted as the world’s largest public-private partnership of its kind, was opened to the public on November 29 between Miyapur and Nagole, a total distance of around 30 km, covering 24 stations.

The metro train services are operational from 6 am to 10 pm. L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd has fixed a minimum of Rs 10 for a distance of up to two kilometers and the maximum fare is Rs 60 for a distance of more than 26 kms.
