India Sends Note Verbale To Pak Seeking Investigation Into Harassment Incidents

Unable to bear the harassment and intimidation being faced by its diplomats, New Delhi on Thursday sent another note verbale to Islamabad demanding investigation into the incidents reported till now.

According to reliable sources the note verbale contained at least three incidents in which Indian diplomats had to face harassment in Islamabad on Thursday.

In one such incident, two people followed the vehicle of the Indian Deputy High Commissioner, while he was going to an embassy within the Diplomatic Enclave for a meeting, according to sources. The two people were traveling in Toyota Corolla car.

And yet in another incident, the Indian Naval Attache was also followed by a person riding on a motor bike. The official was going to Serena hotel for a meeting.

In a third such incident, the (political) second secretary was also followed by a person at the street-1 Cafe which was located within the Diplomatic Enclave while he was going to meet another diplomat for official purpose, a source said.

The Indian High Commission website too remains blocked which has affected normal functioning and causes great inconvenience.

Stating that the responsibility for the safety and security of Indian mission, its officers, staff members and their families lies on the Pakistan government, the source said: “We have requested them to immediately investigate all these incidents and direct the relevant authorities to ensure that such incidents do not recur. Results of the investigations may kindly be shared with the High Commission.”

Following recent incidents, the Pakistan too alleged that its High Commissioner Sohail Mahmood and his family members too were harassed in New Delhi and called him back for consultation.

During media briefing after the allegation, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Raveesh Kumar said that the Indian High Commission in Pakistan was facing “a litany of issues” which have not been resolved for several months.

“We raised these issues in good faith through diplomatic channels and not through the media.”

“We have asked for immediate resolution of these issues faced by our High Commission in Islamabad so that the safety and security of the diplomatic mission and our diplomatic and consular officials is assured,” he added.

Indian diplomats and many officials from India have been facing numerous attempts by unknown Pakistani nationals and New Delhi tried to address the problem time to time by the way communication with Pakistani concerned officials. But they have always claimed to be doing the best in the interest and security of Indian Officials. But India rejected the assertion and maintained that nothing enough is being done for the officials. Time and again Pakistan has betrayed the promises it has made to India. India needs to take the issue in a diplomatic way, instead of just trying to complain again and again.
