No More Parking Fees At Malls in Hyderabad, Thanks To The Two!

Have you ever paid a parking fee ranging from Rs. 20 to 50 at a mall’s parking lot just for 10-15mins of parking? Well, honestly it’s quite frustrating to do the same. Do you see the vehicles across the parking lot and imagine how much these malls earn just from their parking spaces? Then this post is just for you guys.

Recently Telangana’s Government announced a revolutionary decision of waiving parking fees from malls and other public places on one condition. Read on to find out the same.

Telangana Government decided to waive off Parking fees in malls, commercial establishments, multiplexes and in the city and other urban areas. The government has released an official order which stated that for the first 30minutes, you won’t be charged even a penny, which means you can use the first 30minutes for free.

For the next 30mintutes to one hour, the parking fee will be waived off if you show a bill no matter what the amount is, but after one hour, if you show the bill greater than the parking fee, you aren’t required to pay any fee.

For example, if you go spend time in the mall for 4-5 hours and shop for Rs. 500 and your parking fee is Rs. 50, then you are not required to pay the parking fee of Rs. 50.

Without further due, let me introduce you the heroes behind this free of cost parking. Vijay Gopal, a 29-year-old activist who is a resident of Tarnaka filed a written petition to the government and mentioned about GHMC’s inefficiency against commercial complexes who are charging extra money from their customers for parking.

He was the same person who had filed a case against Inorbit mall at Madhapur PS as he was charged to pay a parking fee of Rs.30 for just 10minutes in the parking lot. He was even more irked after seeing the malls charging GST on the parking fees and went ahead with the support of Sheelu, an advocate.

“The malls are minting money. Anybody who visits the mall would at least spend two hours for a movie or shopping and for that you have to shell out minimum Rs 50, no matter which mall,” said Gopal.

Satish Kumar Pendyala was the second person who is responsible for this move by the government. He had already submitted two PIL’s and recently submitted his third PIL. He teaches polity and current affairs to IAS officers. This came as a relief to all the people who are shelling out Rs. 30 – 50 for parking which was mandatorily free as per GHMC rules. Finally, Hyderabadis can enjoy free parking with effect from 1st April 2018.
