Raveena Tandon And Barkha Dutt Had A Twitter War On Karwachauth & How Raveena Won Is Epic!
Indian women just celebrated the festival of Karvachauth and you might have read many articles supporting the tradition and several against it. This festival is questioned by many ‘modern’ women these days, especially because it’s the women who fast, not the men. So, gender equality issues are bound to be there. And that’s exactly what happened on this Karvachauth.
Popular journalist Barkha Dutt, who has always been blatantly outspoken on social media, expressed her views about Karvachauth on Twitter, saying that the festival seems to be regressive and patriarchal to her. And actress Raveena came out in open to not only defend the festival but also giving a lesson on “tolerance” to Barkha Dutt.
Here is from the war begins with Barkha Dutt tweet against Karvachauth:
I know its all about ‘Choice’ but no power has yet been able to convince me that #karvachauth is not inherently regressive & patriarchal!

But this tweet didn’t go well with Raveena Tandon and what followed was a Twitter war!
a beautiful tradition coming down centuries,Whr women pray for their husbands,I pray for my whole family. And THAT is not regressive @BDUTT

And then again Barkha Dutt
@TandonRaveena sure Raveena, like I said its about ‘choice’ but that word allows by definition for my opinion to differ from yours 🙂

@BDUTT your choice your freedom agreed- but regressive is a strong word-donot demean it for others u could’ve stopped”don’t believe in it” — Raveena Tandon (@TandonRaveena) October 30, 2015
@TandonRaveena I think to curtail my expression is to go against the essence of choice- the same choice you claim when you believe in it.
