Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja tormented New Zealand batsmen in tandem in an 11-over spell on the third morning of the Kanpur Test on Saturday (September 24) to bring the match back to level pegging after Kane Williamson and Tom Latham had seized the initiative on Day 2.

Virat Kohli started with his two spinners, who flirted with the outside edge of the two batsmen, giving them their first glimpse of the true nature of a typical Indian wicket that offered generous turn and bounce. After four overs offending tentatively and getting beaten by full deliveries that turned sharply, Latham was masterfully trapped in front of the stumps by an Ashwin slider.

Early on Saturday, Ashwin put his hand up. Williamson watched the shortish delivery, pitching outside the off-stump and decided to move onto his back foot to play it through covers. But, Ashwin gave the ball enough revolutions for it to turn sharply and knock back the stumps. The New Zealand skipper walked back for 75, leaving the visitors in a spot of bother.
