Singer Sonu Nigam In Trouble For Comparing Radhe Maa With Goddess Kaali: Case Registered Against Singer

Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam was embroiled in a controversy after he tweeted in support of Radhe maa, the self-styled godwoman who has recently been involved in an alleged dowry case. Finding nothing wrong in the pictures of the godwoman that went viral, Sonu, known to be quite a religious person, tweeted, “Just my 2 pence. Kaali Maa is depicted in lesser clothes than Radhey Maa. Interesting that this country wants to sue a woman for her clothes.”

“I have no clue who she is… Never met her… But in my eyes, she’s someone’s wife, someone’s daughter and many others call her a mother,” Nigam claimed about Radhe Maa. Nigam’s comments seem to have offended religious leaders.

Here’s what Sonu tweeted:

Case registered against singer Sonu Nigam:

The Chairman of Dharma Rakshak Mahamanch, Ramesh Joshi filed a complaint against Nigam for hurting religious sentiments with his comments. Joshi said that Nigam has insulted the Goddess Kaali by comparing her with Radhe Maa. The complainst was lodged in Samta Nagar police station, Mumbai.

The police have Police has registered the complaint under sections 295 (A) and 298 of IPC. Section 295 (A) deals with deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs while Section 298 deals with knowledge and intent of causing hurt to religious sentiments.

Sensed the anger?

Firstly, there is a huge difference between Kali Maa and self-proclaimed Radhe Maa. While the prior is associated with empowerment or shakti, the latter is just a mixture of blind faith and controversies. Secondly, aren’t the alleged dowry charges against Radhe Maa equally heinous? Why compare this with rape?

If one is a follower of Radhe Maa, that is an individual’s choice but comparing her with holy deities and bringing gender equality into the picture would ensue uproar amongst everyone.

Here’s what Twitter has to say.

While he remains one of the revered singers but are his claims on the grounds of gender equality true? Would these tweets really soothe the ruffled feathers of our conviction of religion and gender equality?
