A 25-year-old post-graduate student has been arrested for attempting to rape a woman in his car at a parking lot of a shopping complex in Saket, south Delhi. The accused identified as Mohammad Sajid, a resident of Jamia Nagar area, had called the girl to Saket on the promise of helping her in finding a job and later tried to assault her sexually,” said a senior police officer.
The accused allegedly offered the victim a soft drink laced with some sedative and when she was in a semi-conscious state he tried to force himself upon her in his car which was parked in a parking lot of a multiplex in Saket, last night, police said.
She began screaming for help. That drew the attention of some security guards in the parking lot. They rushed to the woman’s help, which prompted Sajid to attempt an escape. He tried to escape but was caught and thrashed by the guards. Guards and other people handed him over to the police.

Sajid is doing his masters in pharmaceutical science from a private university. The woman, who is separated from her husband, said she got friendly with him on Facebook three months ago. The two had subsequently met each a few times. She said Sajid had offered to introduce her to a friend who would help her get a job and asked her to meet him at an eatery.
The accused has been arrested and a case of sexual assault has been registered against him at the Saket police station. The complainant would depose before a magistrate and record her statement under section 164 of CrPC, police said. Investigation is underway in the case, the officer added.
