AC Mechanic Posed As Doctor, Patient Died In Ambulence

In a bizarre incident happened in Burdwan (A city near Kolkata), a 16-year-old boy died on the way to the hospital in the ambulance after an AC mechanic posed as the treating doctor. This news is not only hard to believe and baffling but also shocking. As we continue to be shocked and appalled by such ignorance, we often wonder where the world is going.

Arijit Das, the 10th-grade student had complained of back pain and fever after his exam on Wednesday and was immediately taken to the nursing home in Burdwan, a place where the medical authorities asked the family to take Arijit Das to Calcutta.

In the police interrogation, it was found that the AC mechanic had revealed that he was hired for Rs. 8000 to act as a doctor since he has experience in accompanying the doctors in the ambulance and knew how to operate oxygen cylinder.

The family said they paid Rs. 8,000 for the ambulance and an additional Rs. 8000 for the doctor who accompanied the patient to the medical aid.

No one from the family members/relatives was allowed to accompany the child in the ambulance accounting on the ‘stature of the doctor’. The boy had then developed respiratory problems on the way which couldn’t be diagnosed in the ambulance and passed away.

According to the uncle of the deceased, “Arijit was a meritorious student and aspired to become a doctor and treat the poor.”

The police have arrested the AC mechanic and have charged with causing death due to negligence, cheating, threatening to cause death or grievous hurt, and common intention.

This is sheer negligence and how long will be bearing a victim for such negligence? It is high time to speak up before many more lives are lost.
