Mumbai Father Would Save His Depressed Son’s Life If He Was Approved Half-Day Leave From Govt Job

This Mumbai father couldn’t save his son’s life after being denied half-day leave from the government job. In a tragic incident, a State Agriculture Department official’s son ended his life after feeling depressed. The father could have saved his son, had his pleas for a half-day leave.

The father was been assigned work by his superior. He was denied a half-day leave when he asked in an emergency. The incident happened last week and it has led the Maharashtra Government to order a probe. On August 12, Rajesh Ghadge received a panic call from his son who was suffering from depression.

Despite his depression, he asked his father to come as soon as possible or he would end his life. Mr. Ghadge requested Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Bhagwan Sahay to let him go home early. But the superior denied his request and made him work till his shift ended.

A source who was present in the office said, “Ghadge’s 23-year-old son was desperately calling him to come back home and had threatened to commit suicide if he did not turn up. So Ghadge approached Sahay with permission for a half-day leave. Sahay known for his whimsical ways not only denied the permission but asked Ghadge to work as per the regular office hours.”

Ghadge again received another call from his son and he was apparently on his knees when he got the call. He again pleaded Sahay to let him go attend to his son but his requests were ignored. In the evening, Ghadge’s fears came true and he got a call that his son committed suicide.

The State Minister for Agriculture Pandurang Phundkar reacted on the incident and ordered a departmental inquiry. There are two things that we had to learn from this incident is People are still unaware of what it actually is and how big a problem it can become and a change had to be done in the work culture of the Indian subcontinent.
