Do you remember the teacher from Ghana trying to teach MS Office to the children on the board with a piece of chalk? He is in the name again for a good reason.

Teaching is one of the noblest professions on the earth. It doesn’t get enough of the credit and encouragement it needs to get. This can be said looking at the wages the teachers get paid globally. This is the story about a teacher in Ghana who went viral last month for his exceptional work to this noble duty.

The name of the teacher is Richard Appiah Akoto, who teaches Information & Technology to the students at a Senior High School in Ghana. The news went viral after he shared a post on Facebook on how he was using the blackboard to teach MS word since the school did not provide computers.

 

 

Akoto shared the pictures of MS Word interface drawn with a chalk on the board. His determination and efforts to ensure his students learned computers even without an access to actual computers gained the attention of people all over the world.

Many organizations and individuals came forward to help Akoto for his dedication to teaching the kids MS Word.

Thanks to his post that has gone viral, even Microsoft Africa chimed in by inviting him to Singapore to attend the annual Microsoft Educators Exchange.

National Institute of Information Technology, NIIT Ghana, a subsidiary of NIIT, the multinational IT training company based in India came forward to give the computers for the school.

Ashish Kumar, NIIT centre manager in Accra, Ghana shared his views with Hindustan Times on what prompted them to help Akoto.

“We saw the news getting viral on Facebook and other social media platforms. We were so touched by the teacher’s dedication to his students that we decided to support the school with the best we could do as an IT training organization.”

NIIT Ghana arrived with brand new computers for Akoto and his students on March 12 at Sekyedumase Senior High School, where Akoto is working.
