‘Ravi Shastri Is Going To Get The Job’ Says Sunil Gavaskar On National Head Coach Position
Post the very saddening events that took place between skipper Virat Kohli and former coach Anil Kumble, what Team India is going through is well known to everyone now, this head coach crisis is one very crucial issue that must be tackled as fast as possible. Earlier, though many legendaries like Ravi Shastri had applied, the position was granted to the former ace bowler Anil Kumble.
But, this time, the story is different, a couple of names like Sehwag and Shastri are on the table. Despite the various concerns, Shastri is now the team’s favor as he already ensembles good company with skipper Virat Kohli.
Shastri, back then stated that he is going to apply for the post only if he is definitely granted with the position. Now that he applied for coach position created a buzz among people that he will the coach for the Indian team for sure! Speculations say that he will stand as the favorite person in the race after Kumble’s resignation.
As it appears that Ravi Shastri might be selected monotonously, and at this moment, one must be aware of the flaws and positive impact that can be found under the coaching of Ravi Shastri. When it comes to such interpretation, India’s fielding coach Sridhar R can be identified as the best person to assist BCCI.
Earlier, India’s fielding coach Sridhar R was also quoted saying:
“Shastri was somebody who was character-based. He wanted characters in the team, so he worked on that kind of approach, he wanted to take that approach to the field. Kumble was someone who wanted to achieve excellence in his own way. They were two different people, they cannot be the same.”
Many other prominent world class players like former Afghanistan coach Lalchand Rajput, two-time Pakistan coach Richard Pybus, Dodda Ganesh. The latest addition to the list was Phil Simmons who had earlier coached the West Indies team and led them to winning 2016 World Twenty20.
When asked about selecting Ravi Shastri as the next coach, Sunil Gavaskar has said:
“Ravi (Shastri) actually was the one where the turnaround actually started for the Indian cricket team back in 2014. After India lost in England, the BCCI asked him to come in as a team director… suddenly there was a change in the team’s fortunes over a period of time. Now that he’s applied, he’s probably the man who is going to get the job.”
Despite all that, it is well known that Ravi already has pretty good experience in collaborating with Team India. In addition to that, there have been reports that the Men in Blue are backing Shastri under whom the team won their first Test series in Sri Lanka in 22 years followed by a 3-0 win against South Africa in a 4-match home Test series. The Indian team also lifted the Asia Cup and reached the semi-finals of the 2015 World Cup under Shastri’s guidance.
His relationship with Virat Kohli is well known, and earlier, when the time came to select the Team India coach, the CAC chose Anil Kumble over him. Sourav Ganguly recently clarified the decision stating the former leg-spinner was selected keeping the spinners in mind who have proven to be India’s first line of attack in bowling since ages.
“There’s (Virender) Sehwag, (Tom) Moody who has done a wonderful job with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (in the Indian Premier League)… yes there are candidates who are around but Ravi has the experience. Ravi has been with the team before, he seems comfortable with the team,” Gavaskar added.
Later, he also said: “I would imagine the CAC would go back to a person the team feels comfortable with and give him the job.”
