Archaeologists in China have uncovered an elaborate 2,500-year-old tomb in a giant complex containing around 200 other grave sites, which they have been excavating since 2009 in Luoyong city, Henan Province.  The tombs date back to the Spring and Autumn period (771-476 BC) and cover an area over 200,000 square metres. Alongside the tombs, an ancient city dating back to the Han Dynasty (202 BC-220) was also discovered.

It is believed that the tomb contains the remains of an ancient royal family, and may hold the key to learning more about a little known kingdom in China’s history. The uncovered tomb will reveal more about the cultures and rituals of people belonging to Luhun Kingdom.

Experts will study the tribe to learn the history of migration of minorities in the central area of China, state- run Xinhua news agency reported.
