Amazon India Launches ‘Women Only’ Delivery Station In Kerala

One of the leading online marketplaces in India is Amazon and the company has launched what it calls the country’s first Women-Only delivery station in Thiruvananthapuram. It is an initiative of empowering women and transforming their lives in India. With this initiative, Amazon has taken the lead to engage with women, create unique relevant job opportunities and enable them to be achievers in this field.

The second such station will be set up in Chennai soon, followed by a third in Kochi, according to Samuel Thomas, Director, Transportation, Amazon India. These dedicated Amazon India women delivery stations will go through their service partners be completely managed and run by women. It is normally a very male-dominated environment but Amazon India found a “nice environment in Thiruvananthapuram” where people welcomed the idea.

Women at these stations will deliver packages on two-wheelers, covering a radius of 2-3 km from the delivery station. There are plans to offer the women self-defense classes for their safety during work hours beginning at 7 am and ending at 5.30 pm. “We have 100 cities that we serve with service partner entrepreneurs. We found that there are women who would like partner us in transportation activities,” Thomas said.

Samuel Thomas said their vision is to create opportunities for individuals to realize their potential and transform their lives. “We are proud to have pioneered the women only delivery station which is a first of its kind India specific innovation from Amazon and look forward to helping women across communities attain financial independence in life,” said Thomas.
