Two unidentified men allegedly gang-raped a 46-year-old American tourist in the popular hill station of Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh earlier this week. “I had gone to shop at a market on September 14 when two people attacked me from behind,” the US woman, who is on her first visit to India, said in her complaint filed on Wednesday.

She alleged that after she lost consciousness, the accused took her to an isolated spot and raped her around 11 PM. A case under IPC’s Section 376 (rape) has been registered against unknown persons. An SIT led by DSP Renu Sharma has been constituted to investigate the crime.

US Woman On First India Trip Gang-Raped:

The police investigation has found the statement given by the victim to be confusing. The guest house’s CCTV footage shows the US woman left her hotel at 8.26 Pm and returned within 19 minutes. She did not leave the hotel after 8.45 PM. Whereas the rape according to the victim took place at 11 PM.

“The woman has been taken for a medical test and we’re looking for the culprits,” said Sharma.

She had come to India from California a week ago and she was alone. The victim visited other popular hill towns Kullu and Manali before coming to Dharamsala. More details are awaited.
