As 57-year-old Dorris Francis  knows how important is her job to control the traffic at rush-hour on the accident-prone Aitbaar Pushta intersection at the Delhi-Ghaziabad border on NH24. Newbie’s passing through this road would  certainly witness people greeting Dorris Francis affectionate greetings as “Aunty Namaste, Behanji Namaskar!”

57 Year Old Mother Controls Traffic on Road Selflessly After Losing Her 17 Year Old Daughter

Perhaps it’s hard enough to find someone from the Khoda Colony of Ghaziabad, UP who doesn’t know this brave mother who has been serving the people, nation selflessly. Dressed up in white salwar kameez, she plays as traffic cop directing vehicles and pedestrians converging from Khoda, Indirapuram and Delhi from 7am-10am every day.

A few hundred meters away from the UP gate this cut was illegally carved out by the local residents so as to avoid lengthy detour. Although barricades are reported to be broken by the locals every time police try to do so. Though many people are aware of her name but still they respect Dorris Francis for her selfless service in the early morning when everyone is rushing to make their livelihood.

She controls traffic at one of the busiest cuts on NH-24, Khoda Colony Cut every morning holding a stick in her hand like a true traffic policeman. Not for one day or for a week like we have been witnessing people doing for Swatch Bharat, she has been doing this since many years now. Six year ago Ms. Dorris lost her 17-year-old daughter, Niki, after a speeding car crashed into their autorickshaw at this very spot where she controls the traffic now.

Grieving the death of her child, Mrs. Dorris is ensuring that no one else should suffer’s Niki’s fate. SSP of Ghaziabad, Dharmendra Yadav said “We appreciate the kind of service Dorris is doing by supplementing the work of police in traffic management.”

Mrs. Dorris’s family is being run by son who drives an auto and assist in fulfilling their needs. When asked for how long she is looking ahead to continue her selfless work, Mrs. Dorris said “Till I have life within me, I will continue with the work. I will ensure that not a single life is lost to rash driving. If God has given me the gift of life, it should be used for the benefit of society at large.”
