According to the recent media reports, fake currency notes have become quite rampant. A report emerged that most of the fake notes are coming to India through porous borders. These notes are also been found in ATM machines these days though the banks directly fill the machines.

Notes of 500 and 1000 are prone to get duplicated more than any other notes. Here are few things that you have to do when you find a fake note.

1. Never leave an ATM without checking notes, as you can easily bring the issue to notice if you find any.

2. If found doubtful, inform the ATM guard then and there.

3. The ATM guard has a register where the serial numbers of the notes recorded.

4. Match the numbers with the register; take a picture and complaint to the bank immediately. This will help the bank track the culprit and you would get a replacement of the note.

5. Keep withdrawal receipt and the message safe.

6. Once the bank takes notice of the fake note, it will scan the note. If it is found fake, then it would be taken to the bank chest and destroyed.

7. The bank will then return the specific amount which was withdrawn as fake. Informing the bank is doing an ethical thing with which you are not responsible.

8. If the banks refuse to take the fake note back, you can immediately go to the RBI and can also send an email to RBI complaining about the withdrawal and the bank’s ignorance.

9. Or else you can go and complaint in the nearest police station and register an FIR by showing the details and receipts from the ATM as proofs. The Police will look after it.
