Hyderabad: Police Constable Found Dead With Bullet Injury At AR Headquarters Amberpet

A 48-year-old head constable of the Cyberabad armed reserve Police was found dead with a bullet injury in the guard room at SAR CPL compound at Amberpet on Monday. The old head constable, Khaja Moinuddin who was on guard duty at the time of the incident at Amberpet police line, bore a bullet wound on the lower part of the chin that may have been the cause of death, Assistant Commissioner of Police Ch Sudhakar said.

The incident occurred at around 3.20 a.m on Monday, when the other constables heard a gunshot and rushed to the guard room to find the victim lying dead in the bed in a pool of blood with the SLR rifle besides him. “The SLR with barrel pointing towards him was lying next to him on the bed. The bullet entered under the chin and exited from the upper portion of the forehead. A shell was found stuck in the weapon and the 7.62 mm bullet was found in the room,” deputy commissioner of police (DCP), east zone, A Ravinder Said.

Though there was no suicide note at the spot, but as per investigation revealed that Khaja was suffering with health problems. Ill health could be the reason for this extreme step “Khaja had suffered hand and pelvic bone fractures in a road accident a decade ago. Since then, he was suffering from severe back pain and recently took leave for a fortnight due to health issues. We also came to know that on Sunday night Khaja spoke to his wife and brother-in-law about the back pain and advised him to take medicine,” assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Malakpet, Ch Sudhakar said. At last police suspect that the victim shot himself dead with a self-loading rifle (SLR), possibly due to personal problems.

Khaja Moinuddin has joined the service in 1990 as a constable of the (APSP) Andhra Pradesh Special Police in Kondapur before being deputed to Cyberabad Armed Reserve Headquarters. Khaja Moinuddin is survived by his wife and a 10-year-old daughter.

A case was registered under section 174 (Suspicious death) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) by the Amberpet police. After the post-mortem the body was handed over to the Khaja’s family members.
