ICC T20 World Cup 2016 is one of the most awaiting tournament in India which is held to start in March. Each and everyone is waiting for the tournament to start and are ready to book their tickets. Ticket sales had to be started earlier, but it was delayed. But the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to again delay the start of ticket sales for the ICC World Twenty20 as it is waiting for the Ferozshah Kotla stadium, Delhi to get the necessary clearances from civic authorities.

T20 WC ticket sales

According to a report, BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur on Monday said that ‘the board will wait for the DDCA to get requisite permissions.’ When asked whether BCCI would stick to its deadline of Monday given to the DDCA for confirming availability of the venue, “We’ll wait,” said Anurag Thakur.

Earlier, the BCCI had given a deadline for DDCA till Monday to acquire the necessary paperwork to regain hosting rights for upcoming World T20 matches. DDCA also failed to get the requisite clearances from various civic authorities in order to host a T20 match between India and Sri Lanka on February 12, forcing the BCCI to transfer the contest to Ranchi.

Hence, DDCA approached Delhi High Court to regain the rights. High Court said that the DDCA that it was awaiting the municipality’s response on whether it could grant DDCA a final occupancy certificate for the stadium. A bench of Justice asked South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to come back with instructions on whether it could grant the certificate based on an undertaking by DDCA that it would ensure full compliance in three weeks.

Delhi stadium clearances of civic authorities

“We should adhere to the highest standards,” it said. The Court made the observations after advocate, appearing for DDCA, told the bench that Monday was the last date for informing BCCI whether the stadium could be fixed as a venue as tickets would be sold globally from Tuesday.

“If today is the last date, you should have done it (compliances) by now. If you don’t have a stadium prepared, how can you sell tickets? If tickets are sold under Court orders and later stadium is found to be unsafe, then what happens? Tell BCCI to wait,” the court said.
