Kumar Sangakkara becomes the 1st batsman to score 4 consecutive ODI tons – Innings Highlights Video

The left-hander has been in phenomenal form in the ongoing world cup having already scored a record three consecutive centuries in a world cup. He has now also become the first player to score four centuries in a world cup. This is also the first time a batsman has score four consecutive 100s in ODIs. Kumar Sangakkara becomes the 1st batsman to score 4 consecutive ODI tons.

Sangakkara scored his fourth century in just 86 deliveries during the World Cup clash with Scotland. The first of the four centuries came in the World Cup match against Bangladesh on the 26th of February where he scored an unbeaten 105 runs in just 76 deliveries. Sri Lanka went on to score a mammoth 332 runs for the loss of just 1 wicket and won the match by 92 runs.

The second came during the World Cup match against the creators of the game, England, scoring yet another unbeaten 117 runs in just 116 deliveries as Sri Lanka cruised to a 9 wicket victory against the Englishmen.

The third century was posted during the World Cup match against the mighty Australians, who are also the tournament favorites. Chasing a colossal 376 runs posted by the Aussies, Sangakkara scored 104 runs in 107 deliveries and became the first batsman to have three consecutive centuries in a World Cup tournament. Later he found himself slicing James Faulkner’s 115.6 kph delivery only to find Aaron Finch at deep cover. Sri Lanka however lost the match by 64 runs.

The veteran scored the record fourth century during the World Cup match against Scotland today, reaching the mark in just 86 deliveries. Sangakkara was dismissed later on for 124 runs in 95 deliveries as he nicked one to the keeper. Sangakkara exited the field after making both ODI and World Cup history.

On January 3, 2015 he completed 12,000 runs in Tests in the first day of the second test match against New Zealand being played at Wellington, New Zealand. He achieved this feat in 224 innings (his 130th test match), becoming the fastest player to achieve it, surpassing batting legends Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting. His career average of 58.26 (at his 12001st run) is also almost 3 runs more than Jacque Kallis on the list of top 12 test run scorers. He made his century on day 2 of the test, eventually out for 203.

On January 29, 2015, Sangakkara became Sri Lanka’s highest ever ODI run scorer, surpassing the previous record of 13430 runs held by Sanath Jayasuriya. In the same match, he also broke the record for ODI wicketkeeping dismissals, beating the previous record of 472 held by Adam Gilchrist.
