Revenue Dept To Invalidate The PAN Cards That Are Not Linked To Aadhar, Deadline To Be Announced Shortly

Following the various steps in order to identify the authenticated identities and curbing out the existing nonlinear corrupted facilities, the Central Government has now come up with an another interesting idea, this is about interlinking the Aadhar Card to the Permanent Account Number (PAN).

Certain regulations are introduced under ‘The Finance Bill 2017’.

Corresponding to the same, Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia said that all the PAN cards that are not linked with Aadhaar within the stipulated time will be canceled.

Addressing the media, Adhia answered the queries regarding the extension of the deadline to file tax returns. Post that, he added that the government will announce the deadline for Aadhaar and PAN linkage soon.

Though there is no official response from the Apex Court on mandating the linkage between Aadhaar and PAN card, Adhia in the press meet clarified that those PAN cards that aren’t linked with the biometric code on the Aadhar card will be deliberately terminated.

The Supreme Court earlier on June 10th passed a notice saying that every citizen’s Aadhar must be linked with the PAN by July 1st, added that their Aadhaar Enrolment ID number must be included for filing of Income Tax Returns as well as for applications for PAN.

Even, the IT Department has geared up with its efforts to encourage people to link their PAN with Aadhaar. Following the concerns on privacy, on July 12, the top court decided to constitute a five-judge bench to hear whether this must be done or not.

No deadline is so far announced, and Adhia added that the new deadline will be announced today or soon after the final judgement in the Supreme Court.
