PM Narendra Modi politely refuses selfies on International Day of Yoga

PM Modi is known to take selfies with world leaders and commoners and posting them on social media, he refused a young woman on Sunday while participating in the International Yoga Day event at Rajpath to take a selfie. Modi on international yoga day joined over 35,000 participants to perform “asanas”. As soon as he started participating, a young volunteer requested our honouble prime minister for a selfie. With folded hands, the Prime Minister politely declined to oblige her.

It became viral on social media that the one who accepts request of taking selfie every time, rejected to take a selfie. The volunteer return back and took position behind him and started performing yoga, security men in civil dress whisked them away. Another man, wearing a white headgear, approached PM Modi. He too was whisked away.

Narendra Modi did stretches, bends and breathing exercises with 35,000 school children, bureaucrats and soldiers. Security was tight in the city with thousands of police and paramilitary deployed for Sunday morning’s event. Millions of others are expected to do yoga at similar events planned in hundreds of Indian cities and towns. Officials had earlier said the prime minister will attend the event and address the gathering, but not do yoga. But Mr Modi surprised participants by joining in with the exercises.

The central government decided not to include sun salutations in the routine, and said that the event was voluntary, though some government employees reported feeling some pressure to attend. Senior ministers from Mr. Modi’s cabinet took part in yoga events in Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow and Shimla.
