Prehistoric Celt Discovered in Northern Kerala

Recently excavation in  Kerala has invoked to the discovery of a prehistoric Celt at Thimiri, near Cheruvathur. Locals and the historians claim that this discovered prehistoric Celt recounts about the prehistoric civilization in northern Kerala. The discovered prehistoric Celt, stone implement with a bevelled cutting edge, probably used as a tool.

Discovery of Prehistoric Celt Evidences Prehistoric Civilization in Kerala

As per the statements and beliefs of the locals, it is being put forward by the people of the Thimiri native that four ancient Brahmin settlements existed at excavated Celt. Basing this belief the locals started out to dig a well at the alleged place while in the process they were ascertained with Celt.

In the recent times within a one-km radius from the current place of Celt, a four rock-cut chambers and umbrella stones and a cave (termed by the natives ‘narimalam’) were also discovered. History scholars from the Nehru Arts and Science College, Kanhangad, Nandakumar Koroth and C.P. Rajeevan said, “the discovered Celt could have been used to build megalithic monuments such as rock-cut chamber (Muniyara), umbrella stone (Kudakkallu), cape-stone and to cut branches of trees.”

Prof. Koroth said “local residents Radhakrishnan and P.K. Narayanan who were involved in the digging of well discovered the Celt, following which they invited history faculty members of the Nehru Arts and Science College to examine the object.” Prof. Nandakumar said, “Mr. Radhakrishnan had promised to hand over the Celt to the history museum of the college which in turn planned to intimate the State Archaeological Department.
