Another Athlete Nithin Of SAI (Sports Authority Of India) Attempts Suicide

Thiruvananthapuram: A teenaged SAI (Sports Authority Of India) athlete tried to commit suicide early Wednesday here by slashing his wrist. He was taken to hospital from where he slipped away, police said. An SAI trainee has attempted suicide by cutting his wrist today at the University. An Athlete who was undergoing training at Sports Authority Of India attempted suicide by cutting his wrist today at early hours. He was found in a pool of blood this morning and rushed him to the hospital. According to the sources Nithin who was a junior national medalist in sprints at Sports Authority Of India of Thiruvananthapuram attempted suicide alleging harassment from the seniors in the Hostel. He was taken to the Medical College hospital.

According to the police, the 18-year old athlete was brought to the casualty of the state-run Medical College hospital around 6.15 a.m.

The teenager has cut his wrist by taking the help of a broken glass. The doctors, after putting three stitches, referred the athlete to the psychiatry wing. But the police is looking for the athlete, who according to them, has slipped away.

The athlete is reported to be out of danger. But according to the police the athlete have run away after taking first aid.

Within was a state champion in 100 m and 200 m is a trainee of Nisha Kumar and he belongs to Chirayinkeezhu.

Sources said the immediate provocation for the young athlete, who is training to be a short distance runner, could be a theft that was reported in their hostel and a few inmates were questioned by authorities.

The SAI coaches reported that “Within used to buy merchandise over the internet and forcefully sell it to his juniors at double the prize.He was caught by his seniors on Tuesday and firmly told that the matter would be brought to the notice of SAI authorities if he continued to bully newcomers. This is what we have come to know after the initial probe.”

Last month, a trainee athlete at SAI’s water sports complex in Alappuzha had committed suicide alleging harassment from senior trainees. Three others too had consumed a poisonous fruit as part of a suicide pact. While one athlete died the next day, the lives of the three others were saved.

The police have filed an FIR and are investigating the suicide case in order to find out the reasons behind continuous suicide attempts by the trainees at the Sports Authority Of India.
