TRS Wins All Three Rajya Sabha Seats From Telangana State

Hyderabad: The ruling party of Telangana, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), won all the three Rajya Sabha seats for the elections held on Friday.

While TRS candidates, B. Prakash, J. Santosh Kumar and AB. Lingaiah Yadav won the election for the Upper House, P. Balram Naik, a Congress candidate was defeated, officials said.

A 108 member strong voters elected the candidates in the Assembly. The votes secured by Mr Prakash are 33 and Mr Yadav got 32 votes. The candidate fielded by Congress got only 10 votes and the independent member D. Prakash Reddy’s vote was termed invalid by the Election Commission.

The poll panel took the crucial decision after they received a complaint by the Returning Officer that before casting his vote, Mr Prakash Reddy showed his vote to the Congress agent.

The result was obvious as the Congress fielded its candidate despite the fact that the TRS already had a comfortable strength in the 119-member Assembly to get all the three seats.

The TRS has a total of 91 legislatures, and it got full support from seven members of Masjlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM).

The parties like Bharatiya Janata Party having 5 members, Telugu Desam Party with 2 members and Communist Party of India-Marxist, 1 member, did not take part in the voting process.

Apart from all, another two Congress members were also not able to vote because they were expelled from the House last week for allegedly insane behavior inside the house. The members are Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and S.A. Sampath Kumar. They were as per the reports, involved in hurling headphones while the Governor was addressing the House. Due to their bad behavior and disrespect of the House, were barred from it.

The result as it seems was obvious due to the fact that TRS has already got the numbers it needs in the House. The strength got another boosting factor from its ally since the Telangana rule by TRS, the AIMIM. The AIMIM supremo had already clarified before the elections that it will lend its total support for the TRS party in the Rajya Sabha elections. And earlier to that, when KCR mooted the Idea of a Non-BJP, Non-Congress front, Asaduddin Owaisi was among the first to openly support the move.

Rajya Sabha elections will prove to be a crucial factor for future of Bills or amendments to be passed in the Parliament House. The reason for that is, any bill which is introduced by the government in Lok Sabha, has to be passed by it with majority and if passed then it needs to get approval from the Upper House of the Parliament, Rajya Sabha. After the two houses pass the bill, it becomes a law that needs to be followed.
