Rahul Calls ‘Demonetisation’, ‘GST’ Drives ‘Massive Damage’ To Indian Economy – Find Reasons

New Delhi: During an interaction with students from a college in Karnataka, Congress President Rahul Gandhi took the opportunity to take a dig at the ruling government at centre led by BJP. He called the PM Modi’s ‘Demonetisation’ and ‘Goods and Services Tax’ (GST) drives “massive damage” done to the Indian economy and left many unemployed.

“I have a problem with the way demonetisation was carried out, RBI governor, Chief Economic Advisor, Finance Minister, none of them knew of it. When I called (P) Chidambaram, he called demonetisation insane,” Mr Gandhi commented while interacting with the students at Maharani’s Arts College for Women in Mysuru.

The Congress leader also took a dig at the government’s failure to keep in check the PNB scam in which celebrity Jeweller Nirav Modi is the main accused. “Nirav Modi took Rs. 22,000 crore of bank money. Can you imagine how many businesses could have been built by young women like you if we had given Rs. 22,000 crore to you,” he asked.

The Congress President said that government was in fact was not at all able to create jobs despite the economy growing at a decent pace. “We are growing pretty decently as an economy but we are not creating jobs, it is because those who have skills don’t have access to finance and support. The problem is, huge amount of money goes to 15-20 people,” he added.

Rahul Gandhi is on party mission in Karnataka with the view of the coming Assembly elections this year shortly. The state got to see many national leaders visiting to campaign for the elections. The leaders were from Congress as well as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the two largest national parties of India.

Rahul Gandhi is in the fourth leg of his tour in Karnataka ahead of the Assembly elections this year. The state has witnessed frequent visits by national leaders, from both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

While the party currently in power in Karnataka is Congress and is trying to retain power this time too, BJP is struggling hard to capture power from it.

Karnataka has become a battle ground for the Southern India among the two national parties. It is seen as a testing ground for South India. BJP, after winning Eastern elections and then losing polls in strongholds of Yogi-led Government ruling Uttar Pradesh, is expected to face hard competition here in Karnataka.

This week, the Modi-led government faced criticism in both the Houses of Parliament over PNB scam and other issues. As a result there was no business done in the Parliament for a few days. Its longtime ally TDP too quit the party and its ideological sister-ally Shiv Sena is also seen airing its views publically against the NDA coalition generally and BJP particularly.
