The recent communal violence in Biharsharif district of Bihar State has brought immense criticism from different sections over his government’s inability to contain the situation effectively. The Congress party has commented about him as “helpless” and Tejashwi Yadav, leader of opposition accused him of letting BJP to go with its agenda.

By Thursday evening, Janata Dal (United) under the leadership of Nitish Kumar seems to have indicated to the BJP about strict action if there leaders who are perpetrating the communal disturbances are not brought under control. “Nitishji never compromises on the law and order from… and for this, we are willing to pay any price,” the JD (U) general secretary Shyam Rajak news reporters.

The assertion seemed to much stronger than what Nitish Kumar called communalism to be “unacceptable” earlier this week which was said with the intention of sending a crystal clear message to the BJP to stand down. But that did not bring the desired results due to the fact that there were still many reports pouring in related to the communal violence going on in Bhagalpur and had reached other areas too. The incidents were reported from Samastipur and also from Nitish’s home district, Nalanda.

According to some sources, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was reported to be uncomfortable over these recent incidents which have eroded his reputation as an administrator who held wanted peace in any case. The fact has very clear about the incidents being incited by BJP leaders or other right-wing activists that are related to them.

But there is some acceptance inside the Nitish’s party that these things have to be digested to co-existence. They understand the incidents of violence to be an initiation of an attempt to prepare a ground for the BJP for the 2019 general elections.

A BJP leader called the issue to be “a tug of war” with the JD (S) strategy of mobilizing support by “social engineering versus social polarizing”. Or what has also been referred to the politics of reservation and the Hindutva-brand of politics of Saffron Group.

In this matter, Nitish Kumar deputy Sushil Kumar Modi is seemed to be in support of Chief Minister’s politics, but, according to sources, there must be a limit of how far he could work with BJP union ministers and the Bihar BJP’s chief pull in the opposite direction.

For example, Mr Modi was the only BJP leader who decried attempts for connecting the murder of a man in Darbhanga to renaming the town square after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But his attempt failed to draw the line for his party leaders. Union Minister Giriraj Singh and BJP state chief Nityanand Rai pushed to Darbhanga and did not just held an opposite stance against Mr Modi but also, on camera, incited people against the administration.
