[Watch Video] HORRIFIC: Mumbai Police Tows Car While Sick Woman Is Breastfeeding Her Infant, But, Here’s A Twist
A saddening incident took place in Mumbai, the Traffic Police personnel towed away a private car with a sick woman sitting in the rear seat and breastfeeding her seven-month-old baby. The incident occurred on Friday evening, and a video of the incident made by a local citizen went viral on social media on Saturday.
Post the video that has gone viral, the Mumbai Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amitesh Kumar ordered an urgent investigation by the Deputy Commissioner of Police – West (DCP-West). “He (DCP-West) has been ordered to visit and conduct an inquiry into the incident immediately. The case will be handled appropriately and sternly after the report is received tomorrow “, Kumar assured.
Sources claim that the young woman in her mid-20s, whose identity is not available, was sitting in her white car with her seven-month-old child when a towing van suddenly picked up and started towing it away. The cop never listened to her, though she begged and pleaded to stop the towing with the towing officer, a traffic policeman believed to be named Shashank Rane, who was not wearing his name badge while on duty, which is also against the rules.
Watch the video here:
She flashed what was a medical prescription from the window and told the videographer that she was sick and was breastfeeding her hungry child, which was visible as the car was towed away mercilessly. Ignoring her pleas, the traffic cop to stop towing as something untoward could happen to both woman and child, he appeared unconcerned and continued speaking on his mobile phone.
Next, to that, the woman also claimed that two other vehicles parked there were not picked, but her car was chosen for towing without listening to her desperate pleas. Following protests and adverse publicity in the social media, the Traffic Police Department on Saturday ordered a probe into the issue.
While the video drew so much attention on the social media, another side of the story is out. This video is shot on a mobile phone shows that the seven-month-old baby was not inside the car but in the arms of another family member when the Mumbai Traffic Police warned to tow it away. The infant was taken inside, thereafter, indicating that situation could have been averted, as part of the parent.
The footage contradicts with the account of the woman named Jyoti Male, who told media that the policemen did not even ask her to get down before towing the car, even when she told them that she was breastfeeding. “When I saw the video last night, my first reaction was that the police personnel should be suspended and an action should be taken against him. But I read in the morning that the mother kept sitting inside the moving car. Our first concern is that of the child. If the case goes against the lady, then the lady should be booked,” Rekha Sharma, chairperson of National Commission for Women (NCW) told media.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had also condemned the incident and had told ANI: “It is very unfortunate and absolutely insensitive and dangerous to tow the vehicle with the lady and the child inside. The cop is suspended and orders have been given to sensitize traffic cops so as to prevent such incidents.”
