At the time of launch, Mukesh Ambani and industry experts together came with the promise that the 4G speeds on Reliance Jio will be faster and much more reliable than that of its competitors. But after the commercial launch, the speeds started dropping for users, and many complained about inadequate infrastructure to support the growth.

Recently, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) had launched a speed test app named MySpeed for Android and iOS to check the speeds of telecom service provider of India.

According to the most recent data shared on TRAI MySpeed portal, Reliance Jio 4G is found to be the slowest 4G network provider among the top 5 telecom operators in India.

TRAI  Reveals Jio Has The Slowest 4G Service In India:

The TRAI’s report says that the 4G speed offered by Airtel is 11.4 megabits per second (mbps), Anil Ambani’s Reliance Communications’ at 7.9 mbps, Idea’s at 7.6 mbps, and Vodafone’s at 7.3 mbps. Jio, which is a 4G-only network, was recorded at 6.2 mbps.

Also, the upload speed is not great as well.

The TRAI data shows the upload speed to be 2.37 Mbps. Idea tops the list with data speed of 4.11 megabits per second (Mbps), followed by Vodafone with 3.96 Mbps and Airtel with 3.74 Mbps.

Jio stands fourth in Delhi and Mumbai circles with average upload speeds of 2.3Mbps and 3Mbps, respectively. In Karnataka, users get 2.6Mbps upload speed on an average, while the network stands at sixth position.

Responding to the report, Reliance Jio has struck back, claiming that the data is biased against it. 

The statement said, “With reference to statistics published on Trai’s analytic website, we have performed an internal analysis of the same. Based on this analysis, we believe that the comparison of Jio speeds with other operators has an inherent bias against Jio data usage”.

The company also lays the blame on faulty calculations by TRAI, claiming that the data speed was being calculated after the consumers exhausted the daily fair use policy of 4GB data download. Once a user has used up 4GB data in a day, the speed falls to 256 kbps. 

“Historically, we have observed that a disproportionate number of speed tests are performed once the FUP comes into effect. This is because most users don’t consider performing the test until they observe a deterioration of speed… This has the effect of dragging the average far below the speeds experienced by Jio customers who are enjoying full 4G LTE speeds,” the statement specified.
