Javed Miandad Challenges PM Modi To Start A War, Says All Pakistanis Are Ready For Martyrdom

A battle between India and Pakistan has always been enthralling, be it in sports, on the border or on media platforms. Former Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad took the India-Pakistan hyperbole to an all-new level, challenging Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He  raised a question and insulted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parentage in the wake of India’s successful surgical strikes on Pakistan.

In an all-out verbal attack against India, Miandad challenged India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to start a war.

We are ready for martyrdom. Our nation cannot be cowed down by hollow threats. Ye laaton ke bhoot baaton se baaz nahi aate, inko laate hi maarni padengi (Pakistan shouldn’t get scared India’s empty threats, it should respond in action),” Miandad was quoted by a Pakistani TV channel.

They (Indians) are cowards. Action is the best reaction,” he added.

Miandad, a former Pakistan batsman, was famed for two skills: scoring runs (he has 8832 in Tests and 7381 in ODIs) and annoying opponents with behaviour that had no place in the gentleman’s game.

The explosive right-handed batsmen was a nemesis for Indian bowlers during his playing days, and is known for his famous, heated altercation with Kiran More during the 1992 World Cup group match against India. Not many have forgotten that in the 1985 World Series match, he hit India’s Chetan Sharma for a six on the final ball to seal a win for Pakistan.

He was also notorious on the field in trying to get under the skin of the opposition. On one occasion he went after former Australian paceman Dennis Lilee with a bat after he had enough of his sledging.

But that’s not all. Miandad has been written off India’s good books as his son is married to daughter of India’s most wanted underworld don, Dawood Ibrahim.

With ties between India and Pakistan reaching a new low after the Uri attacks and the subsequent surgical strikes by the Indian troops last week, it remains to be seen how Miandad’s comments are received by the cricketing community, especially after Shahid Afridi had earlier called for peace.
