Priyanka Chopra Wears Tee With Insensitive Message, Twitterati Left Fuming

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, who has hogged the international limelight in the past two years thanks to her popular TV show ‘Quantico’ and ‘Baywatch’ stint, has also been embroiled in a couple of unnecessary controversies.

And now, Priyanka Chopra is grabbing eyeballs yet again. This time, it’s not for Quantico but a completely different reason all together.

Actress Priyanka Chopra recently tweeted a picture of herself sporting a bold and fearless look on the cover of a luxury lifestyle and travel magazine, Conde Nast Traveller India, for the latter’s sixth-anniversary issue.

In a recent photo shoot for a magazine cover has earned Priyanka Chopra a lot of criticism. The photo, which features on the cover of the most recent issue of the Condé Nast Traveller, features Priyanka wearing a simple white tank top and posing against a balcony. What’s so offensive about that you may wonder?

Well, it is the message on Priyanka’s t-shirt that seems to be the point of contention. The photo was widely interpreted as an insensitive statement against refugees and immigrants

People are calling out Priyanka for the message on the tank top she is wearing in the cover photo. The words ‘Refugee’, ‘Immigrant’ and ‘Outsider’ are crossed out in red while the word ‘Traveller’ isn’t.

PeeCee is being heavily criticised by Twitter users, who’ve taken offence over her magazine cover.

There could be many interpretations of the message, but a few of her fans have taken offence. They believe that Priyanka is belittling the plight of refugees and immigrants by showing them as less than a luxurious traveller. Here are some of the angry tweets directed towards her:

Some fans have also come to her defence, saying what she meant wasn’t what people inferred from the message.

She had earlier condemned US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump for his call to ban Muslim immigrants from the US. In a rhetorical question she also asked Trump if all Americans were not immigrants.

We think the message was that a refugee, an immigrant or an outsider should be simply called ‘travellers’. But hey, let’s wait for Priyanka or Condé Nast to clear the air on the controversy. Watch this space for a follow up.
