Ahead of its launch on August 22, 2016, the Renault Kwid 1000cc variant’s specifications and features have been revealed by the company giving an early glimpse at the offering.

The Kwid was launched in September 2015 and it went to do wonders for Renault in terms of sales and popularity of the brand. So much so, that it became the second best-selling entry-level hatchback in the country after Maruti Suzuki’s Alto 800.

And now, Kwid 1.0 litre will be launched in the country on Aug. 22 and Renault is expected to commence the delivery of the model in early September. The bookings for the new Kwid 1.0 litre are open at the dealerships of the company for a down payment of Rs. 10,000.

The new avatar of the much-acclaimed model of Renault, which also changed the fortune of the French auto-maker in the country, will be available in two grades – RxT and RxT (O) – powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder(999 cc) DOHC engine.

Exterior

The 1.0-litre Kwid is externally the same as its 800cc sibling but now gets some 1.0-litre stickers on the base of the doors as well as on the C-pillars. We expect the same for the AMT variants also.

Interior

The manual version of this 1.0-litre Kwid will only be available in the top spec RXT and RXT (O) variants. It gets the same cabin and feature list as the equivalent 800cc variant. It will get extra features like a dual tone dashboard, touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, remote keyless entry with central locking, front power windows, and fog lamps. It will also get a driver airbag as an option.

Engine and gearbox

The engine is a new 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit that produces 67bhp and close to 91Nm of torque. The manual is a five-speed unit which means the AMT too will be a five-speed unit. The ARAI specified efficiency of the 800cc unit is 25.2kmpl while the 1.0-litre version has an efficiency of 23.01kmpl.

Price and competition

The Kwid 1.0-litre variant will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and Hyundai Eon 1.0-litre. It is expected that Renault Kwid 1.0 L will be priced between Rs 3.5 lakh- Rs 4 lakh (ex-showroom).
