Jamia Millia Launches Programme To Help Families Of Soldiers Martyred On Duty

New Delhi: With the aim to develop sustainable livelihood programs and models for families of soldiers killed on duty, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI)’s Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) has inked Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with two NGOs. The MoUs were signed with Veer Nari Shakti Resettlement Foundation and Arunodaya Seva Sansthan.

The MoUs are designed to facilitate collaborative exchange and training between all the three partnering institutions said a statement from JMI.

CIE is going to conduct training programs for the participants from both NGOs under EDP programs. CIE will give avail training to families of martyr irrespective of him being from the Armed Forces or the paramilitary forces to help them become self-employable, said the statement.

The organization, Veer Nari Shakti Resettlement Foundation works for the welfare of war widows, Next of Kin (NOK), martyr widows, which includes wife and dependents of war disable, battle causality, disabled serving Defense Personnel and veterans of Indian Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces across India and Nepal.

It also supports grieving families to start group businesses as per their selection and skill set to enable them to generate a dignified livelihood.

Arunodaya Seva Sansthan is a group that works for the empowerment of underprivileged children, youth and women by providing relevant education and market focused livelihood programs. It has done a good job to reach its target area where it has already implemented various women empowerment and skill development program.

The MoU was signed on July 23, 2018, by Prof. Zishan Husain Khan, Director, CIE, Mr. A K Tiwari, President of Arunodaya Seva Sansthan and Mr. Prashant Tiwari, trustee of Veer Nari Shakti Resettlement Foundation.

The main purpose of the signed MoU, according to Jamia is to utilize the strength of both for successful implementation of Skill Development Program for benefit of the weaker sections of society.

Arunodaya Seva Sansthan is ready to sponsor the participants under the Skill Development Program and provide assistance in the employment of the participants’ through their placement unit. They shall also provide all type of assistance in the self-employment of the participants and generate funds through CSR funding for Jamia Millia Islamia’s Livelihood Business Incubator.

Such type of initiatives is need of the hour. This is just a small step towards a bigger accomplishment in waiting. Government too is required to take such initiatives through different organizations.
