North Korea “Possibly” Carrying On Its Nuclear Missiles Project: United States

New York: As per fresh reports, North Korea is said to be preparing new intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and its missile programme is going on as “business as usual”.

An official from US, having knowledge of the latest intelligence assessment on Pyongyang told Fox News, “It’s business is as usual.”

The official said that the North Korean government under the leadership of Kim Jong-un is carrying on with its construction of new ICBMs.

The point to be noted here that North Korea has become a virtual pariah in the international community after the United Nations imposed tough sanctions on the country for conducting nuclear tests and launching three ICBMs last year.

The Washington Post was the first to publish news on Monday regarding Pyongyang likely making two ICBMs at the same facility, where the it manufactured the first country’s first long-range missiles. They included the Hwasong-15, having the capacity of striking the US East Coast, satellite images showed.

Officials told The Washington Post on condition of anonymity that North Korea was full of intentions to deceive the US by not disclosing the total number of research facilities and warheads and claiming that their country had achieved complete denuclearization.

As per the American intelligence reports, Kim was keeping on the expanding of his nuclear arsenal, instead of making a commitment to achieve denuclearization in North Korea along with US President Donald Trump at their meeting in Singapore in April.

“We see them going to work, just as before,” one US official told The Washington Post.

Fox News quoted another US official as saying that there was “no evidence” that Pyongyang had put a full stop to its work of building missiles, despite dismantling a test site for nuclear warheads recently.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, last week, told a Senate panel that Pyongyang was continuing to produce fissile material required for building nuclear warheads.

Earlier this month, Mr Pompeo visited North Korea for denuclearization talks, had invited furore from Pyongyang. North Korea later expressed its disappointment over the attitude of US officials on denuclearization, calling it “regrettable and really disappointing.”

“The US just came out with such unilateral, robber-like denuclearisation demands as CVID (complete, verifiable and irreversible dismantlement), declaration and verification that go against the spirit of the North Korean-US summit meeting,” the spokesperson said.

Mr. Pompeo reported that there was progress being made on North Korea’s denuclearization exercise. But North Korea’s statement was apparently not in sync with that of Pompeo.

He further added that “there’s still more work to be done” to achieve the complete process of dismantling North Korea’s nuclear weapon and ballistic missiles programme.
