A 12-Year-Old Sister Ended Her Life After Her Brother Refused To Tie Rakhi

Rakshabandhan is one of the important and greatest festivals in India to respect the relationship of brothers and sisters. Sisters tie a thread called Rakhi to their brothers. In a sad incident, a 12-year-old ended her life after her brother refused to tie Rakhi on Thursday.

The unfortunate incident took place in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The girl hanged herself after listening to her brother’s answer when she insisted on tying Rakhi. She then committed suicide. It sounds unbelievable, isn’t it?

Kavitha (12) and her brother Abhijeet (15) are the children of Lalaram Prajapati. On Rakshabandhan, Kavita insisted Abhijeet tie a Rakhi. But Abhijeet refused her saying he was going out to play and would tie it later. This hurt the girl so badly that she immediately went to her room and committed suicide by hanging to a fan.

According to Kavita’s elder sister Geeta, Kavita went to the temple in the morning and since she had to go to tuition in the afternoon, she wanted to tie Rakhi as soon as possible. Her brother denied and went out to play. Kavita could not tolerate the refusal and felt very bad. In that situation, she didn’t want to live anymore.

She went into her room and didn’t come out for a long time. Family members started knocking the door but she didn’t open it. As the door was not opened, they looked through the window and the scene inside was frightening. She was hanging from the fan. Everyone in the family was heartbroken. Abhijeet was in a shock that he never thought that his sister would take this step.

Abhijeet could only say, “I am the unluckiest brother of this world.” Kavita’s body is sent for post-mortem and police is investigating the matter. Kavita is so sensible on her part to end her life for such a small reason. Abhijeet was indeed guilty but the disaster happened soon before he realised.

Life is a God’s gift. We must live the fullest and make ourselves strong enough to face struggles and hurdles.
