Police Report: An Elephant Tusk worth Rs. 25 lakhs in the black market was seized from 2 men on Thursday in Thane, Maharashtra.

The police said that they arrested the 2 men on Thursday night.

A police officer said that they received a piece of information about the tusk, the crime branch of Thane laid a trap at a check-post in Gaumukh, which led the police to recovered a gunny bag from the 2 men.

The 2 men were stopped and when the police saw that the bag had ivory inside it, they arrested them right away.

The police said that they have arrested Pravin Shere and Sachin Chowgule, both men live in Mumbai, they admitted that they were going to sell the tusk for only Rs. 5 lakhs.

The value of the tusk in the black market is around Rs. 25 lakhs.

Elephant tusks are usually used for making exotic showpieces, items, ornaments, and some even used it as a medicine.

All elephants in India are protected under the Schedule I of the 1972 Wildlife Protection Act.

The police arrested Sachin and Pravin under relevant sections of the Wildlife Protection Act.

The police have also launched a probe for the case to discover further information about who was about to buy the tusks.
