2 Teens Helped In GoAir Flight Emergency Landing And Saved 194 Lives
In most of the cases, the pilot makes an emergency landing when crew members or people flying on the plane spot engine fire from inside. But in this scenario, the situation is same but the people contacting the pilot are nowhere related to the above-mentioned categories.
A Bengaluru-bound GoAir flight with nearly 190 people onboard made an emergency landing today at the airport in New Delhi due to technical issues after two teenage boys who were alert enough to spot smoke coming out of the tail. The flight was bound for Bengaluru and had taken off from the Delhi airport.
The two teenagers of Goyla Dairy village in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka saved the lives of 194 people onboard a Bengaluru-bound GoAir flight. The teenagers spotted fire and smoke from the tail of the aircraft and alerted the Delhi Police Control Room.
Rohit Singh, 17, was sitting on his terrace with his cousin when they spotted smoke from the tail of the plane. He immediately alerted his father and they called the police. The flight captain was informed and the aircraft made an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International airport.
Rohit, a Class XII student, said he was unable to discern what he had seen, so he called out to his father. “Initially, I thought something had happened to Rohit, but then he pointed towards the fire coming out of the airplane. Without wasting any time, I called up the Delhi Police,” said Rohit’s father, Navneet Singh.
“All necessary precautions were taken and fire safety and ambulances were kept on standby to handle any untoward situation,” an officer said.
The incident happened in the evening and after landing safely, passengers were accommodated in the subsequent flight. “G8-557 Delhi-Bengaluru flight had an emergency landing at Delhi airport at 1953 hours (7:53pm) due to technical reasons,” the airline said in a statement.
The plane was flying at around 5,000-6,000 feet. The fire, which lasted for about 30 seconds
“After receiving the call from Delhi Police, CISF security personnel immediately conveyed the message to Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC) and to the Air Traffic Control (ATC). Within minutes, the GoAir flight, which took off at 7.28 pm from the IGI airport, was identified,” sources said.
