88-Year-Old Bus Stand Mississippi Hanger Collapses in Hyderabad
The Mississippi hanger is the one of the oldest bus stand situated in the Hyderabad. It was imported from Butler Manufacturing Company of USA. It was introduced in the 1930s and served as the first bus depot of the Nizam’s Road Transport Department.
The shocking news comes up from the state on this Thursday. Iconic Mississippi Hanger bus shelter which is situated in Gowliguda. It is also known as City Bus Station. This rich heritage of the Hyderabad from the era of Nizam was collapsed on Thursday Morning.
The whole incident has occurred around Thursday morning at 6:20 am. The good news came from the place of the incident is no one was injured during the collapse of this rich heritage. A few days back on June 30 authorities had evacuated the premises. Precaution measures have been taken after one portion of the roof fell down a day before the collapse.
According to the reports from the heritage experts, the hanger was imported from Butler Manufacturing Company in the 1930s. It was the first bus depot of the Nizam’s era. It was the first prefabricated structure which was installed in Hyderabad. Later on, it was eventually converted into bus station near to the Gandhi Bus Station, Afzalgunj.
TSRTC Took Corrective Actions
On June 30 Telangana State Road Transport Corporation abandoned all the bus services from this bus station. They also passed an order to evacuated all the shops located inside this rich heritage. Authorities know that the structure was vulnerable and posed the danger, so they take corrective actions to avoid all types of mishappenings.
An eyewitness stated that initially, only the first portion of the structure collapsed, but in the next few minutes, the entire structure falls. After the collapse of this rich heritage Sunil Sharma, who is the Managing Director reaches to the spot of the incident to the stock of the situation.
Statement of Hyderabad Zone Director
Director Purushottam Reddy said, “There were no injuries and casualties as we had cordoned off the premises on June 30 as the shelter was extremely vulnerable.”
Apart from this when the question was asked about the renovation of this rich heritage structure, He refused to say anything about this.
