Amid Riot Politics, An Imam Calls For Peace Despite Losing His Son

Kolkota: Even as power hungry politics enrage the conditions by turning secular and peaceful atmosphere into hatred filled riots, killing innocent people and injuring many, there is always a humane side which surfaces in such an animalistic behavior and proves that humanity is still alive.

West Bengal’s Asansol was in the news from few days telling the tales of burning days after clashes erupted over Ram Navami rallies. The government led by Mamata Banerjee has put the blame on BJP leaders of fueling the violence, the BJP calls the party in power, Trinamool Congress’s appeasement politics for being responsible and the Communist Party puts the blame on them both.

But all along the way to gain political points, there have also been some voices unheard, calling towards calm and peace.

For example, like this father who lost his teen aged son in the violence.

“My son is gone… But If you love me, then keep calm. Don’t cause trouble for anyone,” Maulana Imdadul Rashidi, the Imam of the mosque in the town told the funeral congregation for his son on Thursday. That appeal from the town’s Imam for 30 years came as tension peaked in the Muslim dominated Chandmari-Railpar area of the city.

The Imam’s son, who was a student of Class X, went missing on Tuesday evening. His older brother told the police that the boy was dragged away by some miscreants when he went out after hearing an uproar as a Ram Navami rally was passing by.

Later in the Wednesday night, his dead body was found and identified.

According to the Asansol’s top police officer LN Meena the boy’s body was found but he could not give any details about how and why the boy was killed. “We can’t say without investigation,” he said.

A senior police officer at the state police headquarters in Kolkata said they had received some of the  information about those involved in Sunday’s violence (in the Asansol and Raniganj areas of West Burdwan district) were from outside, according to news agency Press Trust of India.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also reviewed the current law and order situation of the state. At least three persons were reportedly killed in West Burdwan and Purulia districts and several others, including police personnel, were injured during Ram Navami celebrations.

Humanity is the only single ideal on which all people can be united and what comes after humanity is obviously animalistic behavior. Peace loving people must come together and should take on peace initiatives. What we see all over the world now is due to greed of money, status and power. This needs to be stopped by one and all, without any difference in religion, caste or nationality.
