Apple Introduces Tool For Users To See And Control Data It Has Collected

An online tool that allows users to download, change or delete all of their data collected by iPhone company has been introduced by the company. The tool is presently available in the United States and several other countries.

Along with the rolling out of the tool, Apple has also updated its privacy website. The tool was unveiled earlier this year to be launched for users from the European Union to cater to the region’s General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR. Now, Apple will allow its users from the United States, Australia, Canada and New Zealand to see and download complete information that the company has collected from them. The tool allows a simpler approach to make changes to the data along with the facility of suspending their Apple account or even permanently delete it.

Previously, those functions were offered by Apple in different places and then were brought all of them together for data privacy law of Europe. The same tool is under the plans for the roll out for all users around the world by the end of the year.

Devices of the company Apple, like iPhone or Apple Watch collect detailed data of all of its users, like email, call or text message and even biometric data like heart rates and fingerprints. But the practice of the company has been to keep much of that data on the devices themselves and gets the data encrypted by the pass code provided by the user. That implies, that the data is not possessed by Apple and cannot unscramble it if it is prompted to do so by law enforcement officials.

Despite the practice by Apple to keep the data on devices, Apple collects some of the data about its users. And by updating privacy website on Wednesday, the company is trying to seek better explain those instances. For instance, Apple goes on to collect user’s data on reading habits in order to improve suggestions in its Apple News app, but the company clarifies that the data is linked to an anonymous identifier, instead of being linked to a personal profile. It also says that it is not linked to other services of the company and can be reset at any time.

The guide for users provided by Apple was also expanded to adjust their privacy settings. For instance, the default settings in Apple also allow some advertising tracking specially in its App Store and Apple News, but the guide lets users know about how can one limit that tracking.
