“External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Mike Pompeo have decided to reschedule the postponed ‘2+2 dialogue’ at a convenient time and location as soon as possible”, a State Department spokesperson said today.
So basically the meeting which was going to take place in the US earlier on 6th of July between Ms. Swaraj, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Mr. Pompeo, Secretary of Defense James Mattis has been postponed as of now, till they find convenient time and location.
According to our sources, Mr. Pompeo expressed his “regret and deep disappointment” in the US regarding the postpone of the dialogue for “unavoidable reasons”.with Ms. Swaraj. He did this through a phone call and spoke over to express the disappointment.
Besides this, Mr. Pompeo during the phone call even discussed strengthening the relations between US and India.
“At the end of the phone call both of them agreed on the rescheduled of the 2+2 dialogue as soon as possible at a mutually convenient time and location,” the spokesperson told news agency PTI. Though India is an “a major priority” for the Trump administration so the US is looking forward to maintaining good relations between both the counties.
“India’s central role in US national security is enshrined in the President’s National Security Strategy, which noted that ‘We welcome India’s emergence as a leading global power and stronger strategic and defense partner’,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson responding to a query by news agency PTI said: “US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley is in New Delhi right now for a visit focused on advancing the US-India relationship and underscoring our shared values as the largest and oldest democracies committed to a rules-based international order.”

Regarding this Bharat, Gopalaswamy said,”Like the summit with North Korea, they believe they might be able to advance their relations with Russia, whatever that means in tangible terms. The US’ relations with Russia have deteriorated significantly over the last 18 months and I believe the Trump administration might be able to turn around a corner with one of US’s significant adversaries”.
“So as far as I can understand, this is a very distracted administration but Trump has always had a fascination for Russia, Mr. Putin, and the US being able to strike some sort of a deal with Russia. And that’s where he has set his focus right now,” Mr. Gopalaswamy said in response to a question.
