Bangkok Battles Toxic Air Causes Bleeding Noses and Red Eyes
Bangkok is currently facing hazardous air pollution that has affected the health of its citizens. The air quality in the city is so unhealthy that a lot of its citizens were seen sharing pictures of how it affected their health. Most of the citizens used Facebook to share the images, some people showed blood in their coughs and some showed their bloody eyes. The citizens also used the social media platform to spread awareness of what is happening in the capital city of Thailand.
Health damaging dust particle that is called the PM 2.5 has exceeded the safety levels in forty-one areas in the capital, The PM 2.5 is a mixture of solid particles and liquid droplets, mostly includes smoke, dust, and soot.
The posts have been featured on their local television news, the country also created pollution related hashtags that are currently trending, tv anchors and celebrities are also spreading the awareness of the type of masks the citizens should wear.
One Thai National shared a photo on Facebook that showed hi coughing blood, he said that he thought he was just having a fever, but it turned out to be the side effects of the highly-polluted air they had present in the city. The post went viral and got a lot of shares.
Other people who are living in the city shared their side effects, most of them were people who had nosebleeds and blood red eyes, they also shared the pollutions ailments and how it has affected them. Those people advised every resident of the city to take extreme care of their health and urged the officials to take immediate action.
The air-pollution led the city to close schools temporarily for the rest of the week and banned cars that runs on diesel within the city.
The government has seeded the clouds in hope it will rain in the city, they also sprayed overpasses with water to catch the micro pollutants, and asked residents to not burn anything before and on the Chinese New Year. The government asked the military to inspect all the factories throughout the country. Unfortunately, all the efforts have not yet affected the pollution to fall down.
Last week, Bangkok was ranked as the 5th most polluted city in the world, meanwhile Delhi ranked at 257.
Bangkok’s traffic strewn roads, pollution that comes from factories, and the burning of farms outside the city are just some of the reasons why the city has a persistent smog and hazardous air.
