Blind Beggar Raped His Daughter For Four Months, Flees When Caught By Neighbors
Even before the cases of Kathua and Unnao are settled, there has been a yet another incident of rape. A blind beggar from Amtola in Lakhimpur district raped his 10-year-old daughter.
According to Lakhimpur police superintendent Sudhakar Singh the beggar began targeting the minor after his wife left him in November.
He raped his daughter for four months before he was caught by the neighbors.
“Two days ago, some neighbours allegedly caught the accused in the act and thrashed him. However, instead of handing him over to the police, they shot a video of the accused being beaten and uploaded it on the social media,” he said.
“This incident occurred in the child’s home, a place where she should feel safe. Moreover, the accused is her father. This goes to show the extent of moral degradation in our society,” said Singh.
“We have placed the minor girl and her brother in the custody of their relatives. It is a very sad and unfortunate incident. The accused has gone into hiding, but he will be nabbed soon,” Lakhimpur SP Sudhakar Singh said on Tuesday.
The victim underwent a medical examination on Monday and police are waiting for the report now.
In another incident, police arrested a middle-aged man for allegedly attempting to sodomise a six-year-old boy at Tipong in Tinsukia district on Sunday evening. Superintendent of police (Tinsukia district) Mugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta identified the accused as 40-year-old Shekhar Ali.
A security guard employed at an apartment complex in Guwahati was arrested for sodomising a 10-year-old boy on April 18.
Last month, an 11-year-old girl was raped and burnt alive by three people—two minors and a teenager—in Nagaon district.
Despite statewide protests and heightened security measures such as the launch of a dedicated police helpline and amendments in Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act, these horrific crimes against young girls are not decreasing.
