BSP-SP “Friendship” To Serve National Interest: Mayawati To BJP

Lucknow: With a clear message to BJP, Mayawati hit out at the party by saying that the “friendship” between BSP and Samajwadi Party is to serve National Interest and it will continue to be so. The BSP President Mayawati on Monday held a meeting with the party’s coordinators to update them with the ‘new strategy’ with the sole purpose of defeating the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.

With the elections to be held next year, the BJP chief alerted the party members and senior leaders that they need to work wholeheartedly to defeat the BJP in the parliamentary elections.

She discussed the changing social and political equations going on in the state of Uttar Pradesh and said that they can bring the dream come true to make a ‘welfare government’ only when the poor, neglected and oppressed are united and are encouraged to vote for the right party.

In the meeting she also stressed for the need to mend an alliance or an understanding and encouraged party leaders to foil the BJP parties efforts to drive a wedge in the new found equation with the Samajwadi Party. A party insider informed about the meeting.

The BSP chief also directed all its coordinators not to take the recent Rajya Sabha elections seriously and said that the BJP’s defeat in the key Lok Sabha seats of Gorakhpur and Phulpur constituency had turned the saffron party into confusion.

She also thanked all those party members and workers who put all of their efforts to defeat BJP in its two constituencies, an insider said.

Mayawati, while encouraging the leaders from BJP to be consistent in their efforts against the BJP to defeat it, by highlighting the shortcomings of both the Centre and the State Government, also indicated the the future strategy for BSP would be soon made after a decision is finally taken on an alliance.

A party leader informed that the Chief of BSP wanted feedback on how opposition parties felt about firming up an alliance against the BJP.

“The BSP’s close ties with the Samajwadi Party are not for any selfish motive but in the national interest,” she told the media earlier in the day, while emphasising that opposition parties will have to work in a coordinated manner to stop the BJP from coming to power at the Central level.

She stressed on the point to unify all non-BJP parties to come together to be able to address all the problems of common people, which includes the poor and the youth.

The whole country has welcomed the BSP-SP friendship, she said, while asserting that the workers from both the parties will not fall prey to the designs’ of BJP.

“Since the BJP is now finding this (tie-up) taking shape, their leaders are issuing unfounded statements against the BSP-SP relationship,” she said, days after the “understanding” between the two arch rivals from the state came in for sharp criticism from the saffron party, which lost Gorakhpur and Phulpur to the SP.

The BSP supremo also commented over the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on dalit icon and chairman of the Constitution-drafting committee, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, in his ‘Man ki Baat’ programme yesterday and called it as an “eyewash”.
