Cabinet Approves Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill! Here Are New Fine Rates For Traffic Violations!

Road accidents in India take more lives than natural disasters and diseases do and these figures are on the rise. According to records, more than 5 lac accidents take place every year in India and about 1.5 lac people lose their lives.

With the aim of addressing this problem, a New and stricter bill is now produced by the Government to efficiently cut the number by 50 percent. Finally, Modi has done something to deal with this.

Yes, after the historic demonetization move which shocked the entire nation, PM Modi gave another blow in the form of these new traffic violation rules. Remember the Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill 2016 which was proposed for the same? Well, without any delay PM Modi on Friday(i.e, 31st March) approved changes to the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) bill, 2016.

The fine rates have changed and it is sure to give you sleepless nights. Here’s everything that you need to know about the new rules!

This (Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill 2016) is an amendment to the Motor Vehicle 1988 Act.

CABINET ON 31ST MARCH 2017 APPROVED THE MOTOR VEHICLE AMENDMENT BILL

1. Not Providing Way For Emergency Vehicles

Not Giving Wat to Ambulance

Penalty: Rs. 10,000/-

2. Violating Licence Terms

Violations of Licensing Conditions

Penalty: Rs. 25,000  To  Rs. 1,00,000

 

3. Oversized Vehicles

Penalty: Rs. 2,000

 

4. Offenses By Juveniles

 

Penalty:

For Owner:  3 Yeras Jail Or 25,000.

For Juveniles: As per JJ Act will be taken action

1. Using Without Authority & Licence

 

Unauthorized Use Of Vehicles Without Driving License

Old Fine: Rs. 1,000       ——->     New Fine: Rs. 5,000

2. Not Wearing Seat Belt

 

Driving Without Seat Belt

Old Fine: Rs. 100     ——->     New Fine: Rs. 1,000

3. Racing/GT In City

 

Old Fine: Rs. 500     ——->     New Fine: Rs. 5,000

4. Without Permission

 

 

 

Vehicles Without Permit

Old Fine: Rs. 5,000     ——->     New Fine: Rs. 10,000

5. Accelerating More Than Limit

 

Overspeeding

Old Fine: Rs. 400     ——->     New Fine: Rs. 1,000(LMV)Rs. 2,000(MPV)

6. Driving Without Licence

Old Fine: Rs. 500     ——->     New Fine: Rs. 5,000

 

7. Compensation For Hit & Run

Old Fine: Rs. 25,000     ——->     New Fine: Rs. 2,00,000(Upto 10,00,000 in Road accidents Fatalities)

8. Riding Two Wheeler Without Helmet

 

Old Fine: Rs. 100     ——->     New Fine: Rs. 1,000(Disqualification of 3 months)

9. Drink & Drive

 

Old Fine: Rs. 2,000     ——->     New Fine: Rs. 10,000

10. Driving Despite Disqualification

 

Old Fine: Rs. 500     ——->     New Fine: Rs. 10,000

11. Dangerous Driving

 

Old Fine: Rs. 1,000     ——->     New Fine: Rs. 5,000
