Chinese Defence Minister To Start His Four Day Visit To India Tomorrow
Beijing: The Defence Minister Lieutenant General Wei Fenghe will be visiting New Delhi tomorrow for a total of four days in his official capacity. The visit is significant with the view that it will be the first such diplomatic one after the Doklam standoff and China proclaiming that its relations with India are by the time improving steadily in every sphere including military.
The visit is termed to be very important with the officials from both the sides are ready to improve communications and relations between the two militaries for the first time after the Doklam standoff. During the visit the Defense Minister of China, General Wei will go through in-depth talks with his counterpart Nirmala Sitharaman during the visit.
This meeting between the two counterparts from China and India will be the second one since Nirmala Sitharaman’s first meeting during her visit to China’s capital in April to attend the defence minister’s meeting at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
The visit by the China’s defense minister is held as a visit with full-fledged discussions over materializing military ties in a solid way to improve relations further after this year’s informal summit held between Chinese President Xi Jingping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The previous summit held at Wuhan had started attempts by both the countries to ignore the issue of Doklam standoff and improve bilateral relations in each and every sphere.
Making the same sense, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang told while addressing a media conference that the Chinese General’s visit holds significance amid the heavily improving relations between the neighboring countries.
“For some time, you would have noticed that China-India relations are improving steadily. Exchanges and cooperation in all areas have moved forward including the military to military exchanges,” he said while responding to a query over the significance of General Wei’s visit to India.
But according to officials in Beijing, there are no agreements expected during the visit by the Chinese General and it is mainly to improve better communication and cooperation between the two militaries on the top level and uphold good atmospherics resulting in the sending of a positive signal to the troops on both side along the Line of Actual Control.
Both the countries have already worked out to open several points for heads of the ground forces to hold meetings periodically in order to improve relations between them.
