Chris Gayle’s Reply To Franchises For Ignoring Him During Auction

After getting limited opportunities last season, Chris Gayle’s inconsistent run eventually saw him getting released by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ahead of the Indian Premier league (IPL) auction in February this year. And, for a man who went unsold twice during the players’ auction, the Jamaican marauder must have breathed a sigh of relief after Kings XI Punjab threw him a lifeline at the 11th hour.

RCB’s loss is undoubtedly proving to be Kings XI Punjab’s gain this season. The left-hander, who was handed his Punjab debut in their third game, made an immediate impact at the top while opening the batting alongside KL Rahul.

The ‘Universe Boss’ looked impressive in his 33-ball 63 which paved way for Punjab’s four-run win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

But, Gayle had saved his best for Sunrisers Hyderabad whose bowling unit resembled a headless chicken after being shredded into pieces by the big West Indian. The 38-year-old hammered his way to an unbeaten 104 runs including eleven towering sixes and a four to propel his side to an imposing total of 193 runs.

In the post match presentation Gayle said that his performance will prove a lot of people wrong. He dedicated his hundred to his daughter who turned two on 20th April.

“A lot of people thought that I am old. Nothing to prove though. Wherever I go across the globe, just want to earn some respect. This one is dedicated to my daughter Crisalina though; it’s her birthday tomorrow. So, yeah, this is for her. Tomorrow she will turn two and it’s her first time in India. We’re hoping to have a nice time,” he said.

He further added “I am glad to score my century in just my second game at home, feels really good. Fantastic innings and I hope we can defend it. (On his work ethics with KXIP) Viru mentioned two good guys to me – the yoga guy and the massage guy, who help me stay flexible. Hopefully, I’ll be able to touch my feet in a week’s time.”

He continued his fine form in the next game against Kolkata Knight Riders. He scored an unbeaten 62 runs off just 38 balls.
