Congress Demands PM Modi To ‘Speak Up’ For Dalit Concerns
New Delhi: The Congress on Sunday said that the recent criticism by BJP’s Dalit lawmakers has exposed the party and demanded the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his ‘silence’ and respond to their concerns effectively. The Congress Party had dubbed the Union government of being “anti-dalit”.
The Congress spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill quoted some statements issued by five BJP Dalit MPs and claimed that the statements proved PM Modi was trying to make India into a ‘Dalit-Mukt’ country.
They even said that the current condition of scheduled castes can be easily understood after the ruling party’s MPs were expressing their fear and concerns, he told reporters.
Criticizing the poll campaign of 2014 by Modi during ‘Chai Pe Charcha’ and also his monthly radio broadcast ‘Mann ki Baat’, the Congress spokesperson sought from the Prime Minister to hold a ‘charcha’ (discussion) with his own party’s complaining Dalit MPs to carefully listen their ‘Mann ki Baat’.
He also said that the situation due to the rising atrocities on Dalit community due to the government’s lack of concern and inaction over the malady has reached such an alarming level that even the BJP MPs were now complaining about Modi government that it has done nothing for the community and that their condition was deteriorating under the current government.
“The prime minister must speak up by breaking his never ending silence on the issue of rising atrocities against Dalits and address the concerns and questions of his own MPs. BJP MP’s statement proves beyond doubt that PM Modi on a path to make India a ‘Dalit-Mukt’ country,” Shergill said.
BJP MPs have exposed that Modi is in fact has “anti-Dalit” mindset and policies, he added.
Criticising heavily at the Prime Minister’s order to his own party MPs to spend a night in a village with over 50 per cent Dalits and tribals population, he sought that the prime minister call his party’s Dalit MPs to his house to be able to address their concerns rather than doing these all “PR stunts”.
“The statements issued by BJP’s Dalit MPs – Udit Raj, Savitri Bai Phule, Chhote Lal Kharwar, Ashok Kumar Dohre and Yashwant Singh have punctured the government’s tall claims,”he said.
These all Lok Sabha lawmakers have expressed their concerns over the burning issues which the Dalit’s face. While some of the MPs like Udit Raj and Dohre have not targeted their party’s top brass in a straight forward way like Singh and Phule, who have been explicit in their criticism for the government.
Prime Minister Modi’s “stoic silence” displays the BJP-RSS is working towards making India Dalit-free and he was “enjoying”the anguish and pain of the scheduled castes and tribes, Mr Shergill alleged.
