Congress To Hold A Meet With Vigilance Commission To Seek A Probe Over Rafale Deal
New Delhi: The Congress party gave a new dimension to the Rafale fighter jets deal. It claimed that a high level delegation of top Congress leaders will hold a meet with the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) on Monday to demand an independent probe into the alleged deal of Rafale figter jets with France.
Earlier last week, the Congress party had held talks with the Camptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). There it raised a request for the top auditor to come up with a report over the alleged irregularities in the Rafale fighter jets deal with France and then present the same report in the Parliament.
A similar request will be made to the CVC by the party. Apart from the request, the party will also seek registration of a case of corruption in the matter, the party announced on Sunday.
The Congress has launched an all out offensive against the Central government led by Bharatiya Janata Party over the Rafale fighter jet deal and alleged that the Narendra Modi government has a role in corruption and violation of of rules and sought answers from them in this regard.
Moreover, the the party has accused defence minister and finance minister of lying over the issue.
The issue of Rafale saw a new turn over the controversy as the former president of France Francois Hollande that it was the Indian government that proposed the name of Reliance Defense name as the offset partner for Dassault Aviation and that French company had no choice but to partner with the Indian company.
The announcement of buying 36 Rafale fighter jets was made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after holding talks with the French president Hollande on April 10, 2015, in Paris.
The French government responded by saying that it had no role in the choice of Indian industrial partners for the Rafale deal and asserted that the companies from France have full freedom to select any of the Indian companies for the contract.
The charges by the congress were rejected by the Reliance group and it said that the government was not at all responsible to secure the deal with its offset contract with French company Dassault Aviation.
The political over the issue does not seem to end with new disclosures day in and day out. Yesterday AIMIM chief Asad Uddin Owaisi posed question to Defense Minister Sitharaman and asked whether the former French President was lying or the PM Modi does not want to tell the truth. He asked her to come clean in this regard.
