Yes, the Delhi High Court has ruled that woman’s footwear without a backstrap is a sandal and not a chappal.

Yet, in other burning issues that need to be resolved urgently, the Delhi High Court has categorically stated the difference between sandals and chappals – just so you get the terminology right the next time if someone’s throwing certain footwear.
